MUJERES ORGANIZADAS EMPRENDEDORAS DE ESTELI (MOES)
MOES is a women’s empowerment not-for-profit organization based in the city of Estelí, Nicaragua.
The purpose of the ICAS/Juntos partnership with Mujeres Organizadas emprendoras de Esteli (MOES) is to prevent violence against women and commercial sexual exploitation through empowerment and promotion of gender equality as part of both personal development, financial independence and community action.
MOES provides individualized services to over 80 women who are commercial sex-workers and victims of violence in the region. The organization also conducts research on sex trafficking & commercial sex-workerswith a focus on what motivates women to collectively organize, defend and protect their rights. It collaborates closely with the public health centers to increase awareness and sensitize health providers to offer more compassionate care to women who are victims of abuse and prostitution.
MOES also provides community leadership through creation of a peer structure to locate, identify and include women who silently live as victims of sexual violence in Esteli and Trindad, Nicaragua. Recently, ICAS/Juntos Adelante has added support the efforts of MOES to increase women's independence and financial self-reliance through community gardens.
